UniStep holds approval from the Australian Skills Quality Authority as a provider of preparatory and vocational training in Australia, and is highly praised in international markets for successful student outcomes.
UniStep, being part of the broader Shafston International College has decades of experience delivering pathway and preparatory courses into a wider range of popular vocational courses including business, education, health and technology.
Innovative Delivery Models.
UniStep International has designed the Foundation Programme for maximum flexibility and customisability to ensure that it fits into a broad range of contexts and is well suited to delivery outside Australia.
Delivery models include partner delivery in conjunction with UniStep, full and partial off-shore delivery by UniStep trainers, a range of online delivery options, and academic credit through collaborative study centres.
UniStep Overseas Programmes Deliver Results.
UniStep courses have been developed specifically to be deployed within partnering institutions and collaborative study centres to empower partners to offer their NESB students new opportunities and avenues to global student mobility and academic success.
UniStep International’s academic team has cleverly designed the UniStep Foundation syllabus for delivery outside Australia through partner institutions and Study Centres, allowing partners to gain greater access to international academic pathways for their students. The programme is usually delivered across 2 semesters with minimum 20 study weeks and maximum 42 study weeks. This allows for variation in intensity to account for approximately 420 hours of instructional time and an expected additional 200 hours of self-study and tutoring.

The programme is structured to allow delivery of non-award training mapped directly with units of competency from the Australian Certificate IV in Adult Tertiary Preparation, allowing for greater flexibility to build and customise collaborative programmes in partnership with institutions in non-English speaking countries, such as non-Australian to Australian university one+two programmes, or co-training with UniStep teachers delivering to NESB learners partially online, partially face to face off-shore, or entirely face to face off-shore. The UniStep Foundation course outcome is a Certificate of Completion with academic results available in GPA format for greater university recognition.
Quality Assurance
Shafston is responsible for the comprehensive oversight of the UOP program, ensuring that the course remains student-centric and that students achieve the appropriate learning outcomes for university admission. This oversight is meticulously documented and evidence-based to ensure transparency and accountability.
LMS and Support
All students enrolled in the UOP Foundation program will be provided with access to UniStep’s student management system. This system allows students to conduct self-study, submit assignments, and access course materials. Additionally, UniStep will provide full access to student services and academic support, equivalent to the services offered to students in Australia.
Upgrade to a Certificate IV in Adult Tertiary Preparation
Successful graduates of the UniStep Foundation course may optionally undertake a final 4-week (60hrs coursework) research subject which, upon completion, gains them a full Australian Certificate IV in Adult Tertiary Preparation.
Two Academic Streams
To deliver more nuanced academic preparation, the UOP Foundation programme is available in two streams. The humanities stream leads to university humanities studies such as bachelors degrees in history, philosophy, religion, literature, arts, media and cultural studies. The science stream prepares students for entry into university science and engineering related courses through greater emphasis on subjects such as physics and chemistry.
A Choice of Relevant Subjects
The UOP-Foundation adopts a two-semester full-time teaching model. To complete the program, students need to study three core subjects and five elective subjects. Students can choose to major in humanities or science depending on the nature of their desired university bachelor degree.
UOP Foundation Entry Requirement
The entry requirements for the UOP Foundation programme include year 11 academic level and intermediate English communication ability.

Academic Requirements:
Students must have completed Year 11 or equivalent study and must have an average high school grade of 80%+ or alternatively, pass the UniStep LLN test.
English Proficiency Requirements:
Students must provide an official English proficiency test score equivalent to IELTS 5.5 or alternatively, pass the UniStep entrance test with a score of no less than IELTS 5.5.
If a student does not meet these requirements, they must provide evidence of their capability to complete the course. If they are unable to do so, admission will not be granted.
Assessments
UniStep’s assessments in the UOP Foundation program are divided into two types: formative and summative, to ensure well rounded and reliable grading of student’s progress and a demonstrable final grade.

Formative Assessments:
Formative assessments are designed to monitor student learning and provide ongoing feedback. These assessments help students identify their strengths and weaknesses and target areas that need improvement. The primary goal of formative assessments is to support learning and help students develop their skills and knowledge throughout the course. Examples of formative assessments include quizzes, drafts, peer reviews, and practice exercises.
Summative Assessments:
Summative assessments are used to evaluate student learning at the end of an instructional unit by comparing it against a standard or benchmark. These assessments are typically more comprehensive and are used to determine whether students have achieved the learning objectives of the course. The primary goal of summative assessments is to measure the extent of student learning and to assign grades. Examples of summative assessments include final exams, end-of-term projects, research papers, and presentations.
Both formative and summative assessments are crucial in providing a well-rounded evaluation of student progress and ensuring that students are fully prepared for their future studies.
Academic Grading
UOP Foundation program uses the 7-point GPA system commonly adopted by Australian universities. Grades for each course are determined based on the weighted scores of formative and summative assignments.

The overall GPA is calculated from the grades of all completed courses. This grading system facilitates a more straightforward assessment and selection process for Australian universities, ensuring that students are evaluated according to the same standards used in higher education institutions in Australia.

Completion
To successfully graduate from the UOP Foundation program, students must complete all assignments and achieve a pass mark of 50% or higher. Upon meeting these requirements, Shafston will award the UOP completion certificate and transcript, which can be used to apply for university offers.

For students who wish to obtain the Certificate IV in Adult Tertiary Preparation qualification, they must complete an additional research assignment. Upon successful completion, Shafston will award the Certificate IV qualification and corresponding transcript.
Please note that depending on the specific requirements of the universities, students may need either the UOP certificate or the Certificate IV in Adult Tertiary Preparation. Also, different universities may have varying requirements for student grades.
Furthermore, the English language entry requirements for undergraduate programs typically range from an IELTS score of 6.5 to 7.0. Since this program is taught overseas, universities may not waive the English proficiency requirements. In such situation, students must achieve the required English test scores or come to Australia to attend Shafston or the university’s own English pathway courses to meet the IELTS requirement.
