The UOP-English and Skills (UOPES) program currently offers eight specialized streams, each uniquely designed by Shafston International College to cater to the specific needs of students in various disciplines. The curriculum for each stream utilises distinct textbooks and materials, tailored to provide targeted learning experiences.
Quality Assurance
Shafston is responsible for the comprehensive oversight of the UOP program, ensuring
that the course remains student-centric and that students achieve the appropriate
learning outcomes for university admission. This oversight is meticulously documented
and evidence-based to ensure transparency and accountability.
LMS and Support
All students enrolled in the UOPES program will be provided with access to UniStep’s student management system. This system allows students to conduct self-study, submit assignments, and access course materials. Additionally, UniStep will provide full access to student services and academic support, equivalent to the services offered to students in Australia.
Target Student Cohort
The UOPES program is designed to cater to multiple student cohorts:
- Year 11 Graduates or High School Graduate: Students who have completed Year 11 and plan to study a diploma course at Shafston as a pathway by a Shafston partner program in oversea.
- Prospective UOP-Foundation Students: Students who aim to enrol in the UOP Foundation program but do not meet the entry requirements.
- Specialized Study Preparations: Students who have decided to study a specific major abroad and need to supplement their knowledge in that particular field while further improving their English proficiency.
- Students from an education provider that has established collaborative projects with overseas institutions, using UOPES as part of their curriculum to meet the requirements of the partnership program.
Course Structure
The UOPES program is a 12-week intensive course divided into three terms, with each term lasting 4 weeks. The program requires students to engage in 30 hours of study per week, aiming to equip them with fundamental knowledge in relevant courses and rapidly improve their English proficiency.

Academic Requirements:
- Students must have completed Year 11 or equivalent study and,
English Proficiency Requirements:
- Students must provide an oDicial English proficiency test score equivalent to IELTS 4.5 or,
- Alternatively, students can take and pass the Shafston entrance test with a score equivalent to IELTS 4.5.

Assessments

Formative Assessments:
Formative assessments are designed to monitor student learning and provide ongoing feedback. These assessments help students identify their strengths and weaknesses and target areas that need improvement. The primary goal of formative assessments is to support learning and help students develop their skills and knowledge throughout the course. Examples of formative assessments include quizzes, drafts, peer reviews, and practice exercises.
Summative Assessments:
Summative assessments are used to evaluate student learning at the end of an
instructional unit by comparing it against a standard or benchmark. These assessments
are typically more comprehensive and are used to determine whether students have
achieved the learning objectives of the course. The primary goal of summative
assessments is to measure the extent of student learning and to assign grades.
Examples of summative assessments include final exams, end-of-term projects,
research papers, and presentations.
Both formative and summative assessments are crucial in providing a well-rounded
evaluation of student progress and ensuring that students are fully prepared for their
future studies.
Completion
To successfully complete the UOPES program, students must finish all assignments and achieve an English proficiency level equivalent to an IELTS score of 5.5. Upon meeting these requirements, Shafston will award the UOPES completion certificate.

For students intending to continue their studies in Australia through a Shafston diploma as a pathway to university from a Shafston overseas partnership program, successful completion of the UOPES program allows for IELTS exemption. This means they can directly enter the diploma course at Shafston or its partner Australian institutions without needing to provide additional IELTS scores.
For prospective UOP Foundation students, successful completion of the UOPES program allows them to bypass both the academic and English requirements, enabling direct entry into the UOP Foundation program.
Teachers
The UOPES program requires approximately 360 hours of instructional time. All instructional hours are taught by Shafston’s qualified teachers. However, some courses can be taught by qualified teachers from overseas study centres. These teachers must undergo Shafston’s training program and be awarded the UOP Teacher Certificate by Shafston to ensure they meet the high standards required for the program.
