Academic Integrity Policy

1. Purpose

At UniStep International, we are committed to helping you succeed in your studies with honesty and integrity. This Academic Integrity Policy is here to make sure that everyone understands the importance of being truthful and fair in all academic work. We follow Australian laws and regulations to ensure a fair learning environment for both Australian and international students.

2. Scope

This policy applies to all students—whether you’re from Australia or studying here from another country—along with our staff and teachers at UniStep International. It covers all academic activities, such as assignments, exams, group projects, and any other work you submit for your courses.

3. Policy Statement

UniStep International is dedicated to:

  • Promoting academic integrity, which means doing your own work and giving credit to others when you use their ideas. This aligns with the Standards for Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) 2015 (Clause 1.8) and National Code of Practice for Providers of Education and Training to Overseas Students 2018 (Standard 8).
  • Making sure that all work you submit is your own and that you haven’t cheated or plagiarized.
  • Helping you understand what academic integrity is and why it’s important.
  • Providing clear steps for what happens if someone is suspected of academic misconduct.
  • Complying with Australian laws, including consumer protection laws like the Australian Consumer Law (ACL), which ensures you are treated fairly.

4. Responsibilities

  • Students: You must make sure that all work you submit is your own, properly referenced, and free from plagiarism. You should understand what academic misconduct is and avoid it. This is in line with Clause 1.8 of the Standards for RTOs 2015.
  • Faculty and Staff: Our teachers and staff are here to help you understand academic integrity. They will provide guidance on what is expected in your work and report any suspected breaches of this policy.
  • Academic Integrity Officer: This person is responsible for overseeing the policy, managing any reports of misconduct, and ensuring fair treatment for everyone.

5. Academic Misconduct

Academic misconduct includes, but is not limited to:

  • Plagiarism: Using someone else’s work, ideas, or words without giving them credit.
  • Cheating: Using unauthorized materials or help in your assessments.
  • Collusion: Working with others on an assignment that you’re supposed to do by yourself.
  • Fabrication: Making up data, information, or references in your work.
  • Contract Cheating: Paying or getting someone else to do your work for you.

6. Detection and Reporting

  • Detection: Our staff use tools like plagiarism detection software to check for academic misconduct. They also observe and review your work closely, in line with Clause 1.8 of the Standards for RTOs 2015 and Standard 8 of the National Code 2018.
  • Reporting: If you or someone else is suspected of academic misconduct, it should be reported to the Academic Integrity Officer right away.

7. Consequences of Academic Misconduct

  • Minor Offenses: Might result in a warning, resubmitting the assignment, or a lower grade.
  • Major Offenses: Could lead to failing the assignment or course, suspension, or even expulsion from UniStep International. These consequences align with Australian consumer laws, which require transparency and fairness.
  • Appeal Process: If you disagree with a decision, you have the right to appeal through UniStep International’s formal appeals process, as per Clause 6.1 of the Standards for RTOs 2015.

8. Training and Awareness

  • UniStep International will provide resources and training to help you understand academic integrity. This includes workshops, online resources, and information provided during orientation.

9. Review and Continuous Improvement

  • We will review this policy every year or as needed to make sure it stays relevant and effective. Feedback from students, staff, and faculty will be used to improve our academic integrity practices, as required by Clause 2.2 of the Standards for RTOs 2015.

10. Compliance and Enforcement
